#CPChatNow Recap- 3/20/2019

This past week in #CPChatNow was bumping as always. Members discussed doing art, surprising interests, and the trending hashtag #AbeldsAreWeird. This is #CPChatNow co-host, Devin Axtman, taking you along for the ride on this week’s recap.

First, I hope you will spare me some personal happy news. I was engaged on vacation at Disney World recently. I know this is sappy, but I want to encourage everyone to keep trying. All it takes is finding the right person:

Zach asked me how my vacation was. i replied with magical with a picture of my fiancee showing off her engagement ring. i am in a gray shirt with mickey mouse on it and she is in a white minnie mouse shirt

Next, Zach asked if members had surprising interests. Paul shared an interest in collecting things:

paul said he likes to collect stuff like figurines, wall hangings, records, etc. each room has a different color and vibe

Hannah also made some cool art and decided to share it with members:

Hannah tweeted her artistic side. She created a drawing that said, "Fight in me' with a teal and purple butterfly. there is gray, pink, orange, and yellow.

Finally, members discussed the recent trending #AbeldsAreWeird hashtag. I shared my experience of a comment while waiting for a train.

I tweeted my #abeldsareweird hashtag. i was waiting for a train. A guy responded if he was in a wheelchair, he would kill himself.

A member retweeted Nicole Rodovsky’s tweet about parents shushing their children when they ask questions and not directing their questions to the person using a wheelchair:

nicole rodvosky tweets the worst thing people do is shush their child or pull them away. encourage them to ask them face to face and ask the actual person.

This brings us to our Extend the Conversation part of the recap. What are some weird moments with your disability?

I hope you enjoyed the recap! Please join us for more conversation and community each Wednesday at 8 Eastern on Twitter at #CPChatNow.

#CPChatNow Recap- Collectibles Focus Chat

On Wednesday, September 14th, 2016 we in the #CPChatNow community gathered on Twitter for a focus chat about collectibles. I am co-host Zachary Fenell, ready to compile highlights into your weekly recap. Enjoy!

#CPChatNow focus chats mainly fall into two categories. External focus chats feature a guest outside the community. For example, Danielle Kerani who led our August mental health focus chat.

Meanwhile internal focus chats promote the expertise within our own community. Personally, I love the concept. Everyone possesses expertise on some subject. Internal focus chats recognizes said knowledge.

For September our very own Jen led a chat on collectibles. Jen’s experience and passion for collecting gives her all the credentials needed to lead the chat. To begin she asked what people collect.

Jen asks "What do you all collect?"Like Jen, a couple people incorporated pictures into their answers.

Zachary shares pictures of his collectibles.Comic Maysoon Zayid shares she collects hotel keys from her tours.Altogether answers showed great range in interests.

People in the #CPChatNow community collect a variety of items. One participant specifically, Alena, turned a cerebral palsy issue into motive to start her collection.

Alena needs to wear knee socks so she decided to have fun with it and start collecting knee socks.Your turn to contribute to the conversation! Answer for the week’s extend-the-conversation question, “What do you collect?” Respond in the “Comments” section.

Alena’s response foreshadowed Jen’s third question.

Jen asks "How does your collection help with your CP and/or anxiety?"Most people found no correlation. In fact only I deemed my collections helpful.

Maysoon and Jen don't find their collections helpful with their CP/anxieties but Zachary does.More answers to the question "How does your collections help with your cerebral palsy/anxiety?"The second part to my response raised an issue Jen’s fifth question addressed.

Jen asks the #CPChatNow community, "Has your collections helped you to make friends?"This time everyone’s answers proved similar.

Collections have helped #CPChatNow participants make friends, both online and in real life.

This week's extend-the-conversation question asks "What do you collect?"

Keep the dialogue going! Answer, “What do you collect?”

In addition to the week’s extend-the-conversation question, feel free to answer the other questions highlighted above. Remember the official extend-the-conversation question asks “What do you collect?”

As always, answer by commenting below.

Until next time,

-Zachary

P.S. If you hold interest in leading a focus chat, please contact my co-host Blake Henry and I to discuss details.

Excitement stirred throughout the evening Wednesday, September 7th, 2016. I am #CPChatNow co-host Zachary Fenell, ready to compress all the excitement into a weekly recap. This week’s Twitter chat coincided with the 2016 Paralympics opening ceremonies. Naturally the conversation drifted to the games.

Discussion went beyond the Paralympics too. I sparked dialogue with my greeting by asking about lessons learned this week.

Hamda learned leaving your comfort zone leads to personal growth.Hamda’s reply led to detailed talk about leaving comfort zones.

Towards the chat’s end conversation returned to the Paralympics.

Paralympics emerge again as a discussion point.#CPChatNow discusses how the media covers the Paralympics and if ableism is involved.Honestly, like Blemi I did not always know the difference between the Paralympics and Special Olympics. However, I quickly learned in 2012 when writing the following blog post, “Debunking Misconceptions: Paralympics/Special Olympics Confusion.” Feel free to pass on the post to help educate others on the differences.

Meanwhile also remember to answer this week’s extend-the-conversation question. “Are there any particular Paralympic events you are looking forward to?”
